Bulking

Something I get asked more often than not about “bulking” is whether or not you should keep it “clean”.

I fucking hate that question, because it completely misses the point of a bulk.

The point isn’t to gain weight. That’s the outcome.

The point is to improve and to grow muscle mass that wasn’t previously there.

How do you do that most effectively?

By optimizing your training performance while simultaneously increasing your recovery capacity.

Will junk food and calorie dense meals do that for you? Sure they could.

But will having a diet that’s predominantly minimally processed, Whole Foods do a better job while preventing huge amounts of body fat gain? Every single time.

You’ll avoid excess inflammation from shitty food sources, have a better control of your calorie intake and have better results in your training performance and recovery WHILE avoiding too much fat gain.

Does that mean there isn’t space for nice food?

No, not at all. Food is there to be enjoyed and it should be. Just don’t be a dingus and have to enjoy every single spoonful of food you put in your mouth. Sometimes you need more calorie dense ingredients to hit macro and calorie goals, and sometimes that calls for processed ingredients, sure.

But I don’t believe they should ever make up the “bulk” of your food in a massing phase

Afterwards, you’ll be like me and only take 2.5 weeks of being back in a deficit before you can post shirtless pics on IG again which is a plus.
