I am a bodybuilder

I started this journey 15 years ago.

I’ve always said I started going to the gym because I was a chubby kid who wanted to be noticed by the girls. That’s been a lie.

After really taking a dive into my mind - I realized it’s because I wanted to prove myself. I wanted to prove I am who I believe I am. Not that I’m better than anyone, not for any vain or arrogant reason - but because I believe I’m capable of great things. One of which, is pushing my body to its limits - of growing muscle, of getting shredded, and of being proud of how hard I can work.

I was told at 13 years old by my high school PT teacher that my beep test score (a common fitness test) that my score of 13 beeps was “utterly embarrassing” and that I had work to do. I cried big tears that day.

Again at 14, in a rugby practice where I wanted to be a tank - one of the most prominent coaches in my life said “no Dev, you’re a piggy” - that coach sparked the fire in me and I actually got to work. I woke up at 5am every day to run the 1 mile circular drive at school to actually become an athlete worth carrying the ball.

I started lifting and at 15 and was teased by guys who spoke down my dreams of competing - that just fueled the fire.

I found Jay Cutler. And I decided I would be a bodybuilder.

After school I gave up the opportunity to study immediately but rather managed a supplement store and started competing. I absorbed every bit of knowledge I could. And year on year I grew.

From 90kg in my first check in to 121kg in my last this past weekend, I’ve grown 30kg of muscle in 10 years.

I fell off track along the way, but through relentless consistency I have kept putting one foot in front of the other. I’ve kept going - and I continue to move forward. Whether I’m crawling or running - I’m moving forward towards my dream.

The consistency of never giving up has brought me this far and it continues to grow me.

Consistency wins. Every time.

I’m a bodybuilder dedicated to helping people achieve the bodies they dream of and health that will carry them through life - as it’s carried me through every struggle I have ever faced and shown me that I am capable of so much more than those 13 beeps.
